1. Изучить известных российских и английских писателей и их известные произведения;

2. Выявить, как книги писателей влияли на людей и их страны;

3. Научиться рассказывать о влиянии литературы на культуру и общество;

4. Развить навыки работы в группе и презентации своих идей на английском языке;

5. Составить и оформить отчёт по результатам исследования: облако слов и ментальная карта.

Результаты проведённого исследования

For our project, we wanted to understand how the works of Russian and English writers have influenced their nations’ cultures, values, and identities.

First, we studied well-known Russian and English writers and their most famous works. We learned that in Russia, Alexander Pushkin is considered the father of modern Russian literature—his novel in verse Eugene Onegin shaped the language and inspired generations. Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace and Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment explored deep moral questions and reflected the soul of Russian society. In England, William Shakespeare’s plays like Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet became timeless classics that shaped the English language itself. Charles Dickens, with novels such as Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol, showed the harsh realities of Victorian life and helped bring about social change.

Next, we investigated how these writers affected their countries. We found that Russian writers were often seen as “teachers of the nation.” Their books didn’t just entertain—they guided people’s thinking about justice, freedom, and human dignity, especially during difficult historical periods. Many Russians still quote Pushkin or Tolstoy in everyday life, and their works are central to school education. In England, Shakespeare’s influence is everywhere—from theatre and film to everyday expressions like “break the ice” or “wild-goose chase.” Dickens’ vivid descriptions of poverty led to real reforms in child labor laws and public awareness. Both countries use their literary heritage to build national pride, promote education, and connect with other cultures through institutions like the British Council and Pushkin State Russian Language Institute.

Finally, we prepared recommendations on how to make this literary legacy more meaningful for students today. We suggest organizing joint reading clubs where Russian and English learners discuss the same themes—like love, duty, or social justice—in works by Pushkin and Shakespeare. To improve our own skills, we practiced teamwork by dividing tasks—some researched, others wrote, and everyone helped prepare our English presentation. We also made a clear, well-structured report.

We believe that studying great writers helps us understand not only literature but also history, values, and ourselves. By learning to talk about their influence in English, we’ve grown not just as students, but as global citizens who appreciate the power of words to change the world.
