PopUps Friend or Foe?
You’ve made a decision that you would like to learn about something, so you do a Google search. You then select one of the results that Google offers and click on it. Then, if your internet page finishes loading, big surprise! Rather than getting to dig into your subject material that you'd been hoping to see so that you can continue learning about your chosen subject, you are given a big giant pop up ad. The pop up is an annoying ad and no matter how many times you try to close it, it won't go away--unless you give it your e-mail address. Eventually you are so annoyed that you just shut down your internet browser entirely. The proprietor of that website has gotten the better of you!
There is a good rationale that a lot of people detest pop ups. They are generally bothersome. They intrude on what you are trying to do. The ones that play audio might end up getting you in trouble with your boss (or someone else in the room). They make insane claims. They demand that you enter personal information into them if you want them to close. Some even decide to put malware and cookies within your computer systems. There aren't a lot of individuals who actually like to be confronted by these annoying things but so many IMers insist on using them. How come?
The sad truth of the matter is that IMers continue using pop up banner ads because they actually work. They receive attention. They aid marketers make e-mail marketing directories. It has been confirmed many times that you will not get as great a result with a voluntary opt-in box on your sidebar or even into the main content of your site as you do with a pop up. They have also been known to help produce sales. Of course, that doesn’t mean that a lot of Internet Marketers should continue to use them. What is the actual value of an e-mail address that you have only gotten through force? Usually what the results are is the person just opts back out of your list as soon as they acquire the first e-mail from you or maybe your company. Can your traffic be of good quality when the majority of it clicks out of your website because they are offended by the pop ups assaulting them? Obviously you would like to make money, but is this really your best option? Couldn't there be another alternative available to those who want to develop an e-mail list and sell things?
Simply put, here is the real truth: if your product is worth the money, it'll sell simply by the copy on your site. Work hard at making a good product or service so that you won't have to deal with the annoying pop ups to do your job for you. Write a great sales or splash page. Catch the reader’s attention and then refuse to give it back through the energy of your content and copy. The straightforward truth is that Online marketers only find success and online revenue when they make products that others are going to find valuable. No pop up banner ad can be substituted to mask the lack of value in a product.
