We first started hearing rumors about GTA V nearing completion back in July last year, but it took until October for Rockstar Games to officially announce the game. At the time, no release date was given, but the developer did follow up the announcement a few days later by releasing the first trailer. We still don’t have a release date, but new evidence has appeared pointing to an October 2012 launch. That evidence comes in the form of a resume and LinkedIn profile for Rockstar North animator Alex O’Dwyer. The resume has since disappeared and LinkedIn profile updated, but not before the GTA V information had been logged. According to O’Dwyer, GTA V will land in stores in October this year. He also lists it as a PS3, Xbox 360, and PC launch, but I doubt very much the PC version will be a same day launch. Historically there has been several months between a console and PC release of a Grand Theft Auto game. Could that be different this time around? The modern GTA series, which I class as starting with GTA III, has typically seen a release happening on consoles in October. The exception to that rule is GTA IV, which arrived in April 2008. Even so, it has been 4 years since that release, and I’m sure Rockstar would prefer to hit the main games selling period of the year in the run up to the holidays. If an October release turns out to be true, I’d expect a few high profile games to push their release back to early 2013, or try to launch a few weeks before GTA V arrives.
