Sheng He, a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of Minnesota, and his colleagues conducted a study employing subliminal images. They recruited volunteers from distinct sexual orientations and gathered together ten members of every of the following groups: Heterosexual guys, heterosexual females, homosexual guys and homosexual ladies. Every group then viewed specially constructed pictures that had been pointed straight at the left and proper eye separately.

They employed an image known as a Gabor patch, named right after the mathematician who created it to test web ftp hosting our capacity to figure out spatial frequency and visual space. Sheng He explained that usually your two eyes appear at the exact same image and therefore dont have any conflict, but by using a Gabor Patch he could produce a scenario exactly where the two eyes had been seeking at two different pictures. Now, when web ftp space one eye is presented with an image that has high contrast and the other is static we will only see and be conscious of the dynamic image. The other web ftp host image goes undetected.

Making use of a high contrast image, presented to only one eye, the researchers could therefore cancel out the image that was being seen by the other eye. The volunteer would only be aware of the high contrast image.

Throughout the experiment researchers presented a high contrast image to one eye, and an erotic image to the other eye. The high contrast image ensured the erotic image went undetected. Erotic images ranged from a naked lady to a naked man. For instance the naked lady was shown to a heterosexual man, a homosexual man, a homosexual woman and a heterosexual woman.

In order to guarantee that the invisible pictures were not detected consciously the volunteers were instructed to press a certain important on a keyboard if they noticed a distinction in between the images observed by means of their left and proper eye.

Thirty-two trials were conducted and it was identified that the males displayed a significantly higher propensity for detecting the orientation of Gabor patches when they had been presented in a slot that was previously occupied by the invisible image of a naked woman. This in impact showed that the naked image acted as a subliminal image.

Nonetheless, when heterosexual males were shown, a Gabor Patch, where there had been a picture of a naked man they had a considerably much more challenging time detecting the orientation. The heterosexual girls faired much much better when shown a picture of a naked lady as did the homosexual men.

It seemed however, that the results had been drastically better when the volunteers were shown the subliminal photographs that appealed to their sexual orientation. However, when they had been shown the photos with no the high contrast blinding subliminal impact and could consciously see the photos the effects were not as good.

So, it would seem from this study, that subliminal images are detected by the mind and acted upon.
