How many times have you dreaded going into the kitchen to make breakfast, lunch, or dinner? You might need a new perspective. Cooking can be enjoyable and relaxing if you try to see it in another way. Here are a few cooking tips that are sure to get your taste buds tingling and entice your inner chef to come out.

Give pre-cut, raw potatoes a cold water bath for a half-hour prior to frying for crispier French fries. When you soak sliced potatoes in cold water, it strengthens their fibers, so that they can stand up to the heat when being deep fried.

Get rid of the extra fat in stew or soup. You can do this by letting the dish cool down completely so that the fat rises to the surface. Then just collect the fat by rubbing an ice cube, resting on a spoon, along the surface. You may be surprised to see that the excess fat will accumulate on the surface of the ice cube. You can also use a piece of paper towel to skim the fat off the top.

To avoid burning your food, stay organized. Just like with anything you do, the more organized you are, the more productive you will be. If you aren't organized, you will start to forget what you buy and that will make you spend too much money that could have been spent on something you would have eaten.

Make sure you layer a salad wisely if it going to be eaten at a later date. Place the juiciest ingredients, such as tomatoes, on the bottom of the bowl, and settle the lettuce or other ingredients that are prone to wilting or sogginess on the top.

Be creative in your cooking. It is not always about following a recipe letter for letter. A recipe can be greatly improved upon if you add a little of this, or take away a little of that. That is the mark of a real chef!

By doing this, you are guaranteed fresher fruit throughout the year. This also gives you access to seasonal fruits that might otherwise not be available at the time you want them.

Keeping waffles or pancakes warm after you have prepared them can be a challenge. Let your oven warm up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Once you finish cooking the food, put it on a plate, and then place it in the oven so that it retains its warmth.

The ideal way to cook a pumpkin is to first place the pumpkin upright on the cutting surface. Cut the pumpkin in half, then down the middle. Next, you want to use two cookie-sheet type pans. On each pan, place one half of the pumpkin with the side that is cut facing down. Sprinkle your baking sheets with a little water, and roast the pumpkin halves for an hour at 350 degrees.

To keep your dried herbs and spices flavorful, keep your spice rack tucked away somewhere cool and dark. Keeping herbs and spices in cabinets above the stove or other warm locations will cause them to lose their flavor.
