If your budget allows, try and get some outside assistance with housekeeping, shopping and preparing meals. This allows you to focus solely on teaching. You would like to be in control of the education, but not necessarily cleaning and cooking. Planning meals for the week ahead can be a great idea. During the week as a home schooler, you will be quite busy. This could cut into the time that you would normally use to prepare big family dinners. Many people end up having fast food more then they would prefer to. To stop this from happening, make food on the weekend and freeze it. You can employ your children to do some cooking as well, it can be home economics. With this, all that needs to be done is a defrosting and some quick cooking!

Avoid lecturing your children like how a teacher would do it. Teachers are trained to deliver lectures effectively, while you probably aren't. Additionally, since you are working with your own kids, they will be unlikely to attend to your lectures. Rather, read side by side with your kid, and try to see things from his or her point of view. Don't be surprised at how much you learn as well.
