Manzy’s flashed wide and white with fear as she stalked a circle around she and the cat. she was lying on her back in a growing pool of her own blood, trapped by the male of the mated pair. She was still conscious, but barely.
Fight she! Don’t give up on me!
Manzy struck out with her front hoofs, and the cat licked his lips, daring her to come closer. His wiry whiskers twitched in anticipation of the kill.

she felt herself drifting from the pain, giving in to the weight on her chest, giving in to the darkness. Dying wasn’t so bad. At least she’d finally get to meet her parents. She reached for her necklace, but the effort was too much.
Manzy’s desperate cry shook her and her eyes opened.
Fight. Don’t give up.
She reached toward the cat’s head with her hands, though they’d never felt so heavy in her life, and wrapped her fingers around its thick neck. Her arms went numb, stinging and tingling, as she gripped with the last of her failing strength. She squeezed until there was nothing left to give, until her arms gave out and fell limply to the side.
It wasn’t enough. But Manzy could still get away, she thought as she began to black out again.
Run Manzy! Run!
The great weight of the cat slumped forward, collapsing onto her. It held her down, choking her in its fur. The dead cat was pressing against her face, making it impossible to breathe.Just my luck to choke the thing and now suffocate under it.
But then it was moving, sliding slowly over her face, filling her mouth with disgusting fur as it stuck to her tongue. She gasped for breath, coughed and winced as the air filled her lungs, reminding her body of how broken it was.
She slowly opened her eyes, expecting to find Manzy. Instead, she saw two dark figures standing over her. One of them was holding a bloody arrow. They were talking, mumbling something she couldn’t understand.
